CFWF 2021 Conference

The Eastern Canada Farm Writers’ Association (ECFWA) is proud to host the 2021 CFWF Annual Conference and invites all members to Windsor, Ont., from September 23 – 25.

From new ventures to undercover operations, agriculture is Risky Business in southwestern Ontario.

From our base at Caesar’s Windsor Hotel and Convention Center, we will tour nearby Harrow, Leamington, Chatham, Ridgetown, and Sarnia.

We will explore the region’s wide-range of agriculture – livestock, field crops, greenhouses, vineyards, even a rice field. We are looking into the possibility of touring a cannabis facility. And we will also learn about the expanding bio-economy which has agriculture as its base.

Windsor has a notorious link to the prohibition era - a time when making and selling, even drinking alcohol, was a risky thing to do - and during the conference there will be several opportunities to experience Windsor’s bootlegging past and the thriving spirits industry of today. As we all know - rain makes corn, and corn makes whisky - and we have a lot of both in southwestern Ontario.

From trade wars to volatile markets, to changing consumer demands, agriculture is Risky Business across Canada and around the world.

Throughout the conference we will examine the political landscape and how it affects agricultural businesses.

We hope you will arrive early and join our Thursday pre-tour of Michigan, which will offer a field level view of Canada-U.S. relations.

For our Saturday professional development session we hope to delve into risky topics such as international trade, business risk management programs, and commodity trading with the goal of helping journalists and communicators better understand some of the issues they are reporting on or seeing the effects of with the farmers they support.

For those flying into Toronto, or who live in the Guelph area, we will be providing a bus transfer on Thursday which includes tour stops en route to Windsor. Direct return transportation will also be provided on Sunday morning. Transfer tour cost: $150

Registration will be open at the end of April. Early bird registration fee for CFWF members is $225.

A room block at Caesar’s Windsor is already available ($180/night). Use Group Code AFW0923 and Group Name CFWF when calling 1-800-991-8888.
