CFWF 2019 Conference
Canadian Farm Writers Federation National Conference
September 26 – 28, 2019
With the theme of “Bridging the Rural-Urban Divide,” we have an exciting line up of tours and professional development opportunities.
On Thursday September 26, we are offering delegates two pre-conference tours: a “Sea to Sky” tour to Whistler which will include far-reaching views of Howe Sound on board the renowned Sea to Sky gondola, or a “Farm and Fowl” tour to Delta with a tour of the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary and a focus of the Delta Farmland and Wildlife Trust. In the evening we’ll formally welcome our guests with a cruise of the Fraser River on board the legendary Paddlewheeler Riverboat.
On Friday September 27, we have three tours in the Metro Vancouver area: The “Gateway to the Pacific Tour” includes Alliance Grain Terminal and the Port of Vancouver, the “Growing Green” tour includes a vegetable greenhouse operation that has converted to cannabis and has a cogeneration plant, and the “Agrarian and Riparian in the City” tour showcases habitat restoration and urban farms along the Fraser River in the Greater Vancouver region.
On Saturday September 28, we’ve planned professional development sessions important for both farm writers and our audiences: mental health and wellness and preserving agriculture land. Our keynote speaker, Gerry Friesen, will speak on “Surviving Tough Times in the Rural Divide.” Representatives from the BC Agriculture Land Commission will be providing an in depth presentation of BC’s unique urban/rural divide: The Agricultural Land Reserve. In the evening, we’ll celebrate with the CFWF gala awards banquet.
